Family of nine displaced by fire in Vancouver | Local News
VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) – A family of nine are without a home after a fire broke out at their Vancouver home this morning. The Vancouver Fire Department and a neighbor confirmed that a couple of Good Samaritans had knocked on the door of the house when they saw it was on fire. The good Samaritans helped the family escape the flames.
The fire was first reported this morning around 8:00 a.m. When the fire department arrived, they found the fire burning in the attic and were able to put it out quickly. The family’s neighbor, Ashley Conkey, said the bathroom has been ruined because of the water used to put out the fire and the family is trying to find accommodation because they cannot stay there for at least a week. Conkey said it was the Good Samaritans who knocked on the door that really made the difference.
“I find it amazing that there are still people like that in society and it restores your belief in humanity,” said Conkey. “I think I would want someone to do the same if my house was on fire and I didn’t know.”
The family has received help from the Red Cross, but they are still trying to figure out where to stay. Neighbors also collect toiletries and other necessities for the family.
